What schema markup does

Schema markup is structured data that describes your page in a format machines can read: this is a software product, it costs $0, here are its FAQs. Search engines use it to understand the page and, for some types, to show rich results like star ratings, prices or breadcrumbs. AI search tools read it too.

JSON-LD is the format Google recommends. It's one <script> block, separate from your visible HTML, so it's easy to add and keep up to date.

Which type should I use?

Only mark up what's visible on the page. Then check that it's detected with the marketing SEO checker.

Frequently asked questions

Is JSON-LD better than microdata?

For most sites, yes. Google supports both, but JSON-LD is easier to add, read and maintain because it doesn't touch your visible HTML.

Will schema markup guarantee rich results?

No. Valid markup makes a page eligible. Google decides whether to show a rich result, and some types, such as FAQ, now only show for certain sites.

Can I use more than one schema type on a page?

Yes. Add several <script type="application/ld+json"> blocks, or combine them in one block with @graph.

Where do I paste the code?

Anywhere in the page's HTML. The <head> is the most common spot. Most CMSs have a field or plugin for custom code in the head.
