How to use the Launch Checklist

  1. Work down the list from “Two weeks before” to “The week after”.
  2. Tick items as you finish them. Progress is saved in this browser.
  3. Use Copy as Markdown to paste the list into Notion, GitHub or a doc.

Why launches flop (and how this list helps)

Most launches don't fail on the product. They fail on the boring parts: a link preview with no image, a landing page that doesn't say what the product does, no way to tell which post brought the signups, and nobody lined up to try it on day one.

This checklist covers those parts in order. The first section makes the page ready to be shared and found. The middle sets up the posts and the places to post them. The last section turns one launch day into steady attention.

Where to launch

Pick a few places where your users already are: a big launch platform, one or two communities you take part in, your own audience, and a handful of directories. Our list of free startup directories shows the badge, sign-up and wait time for each one, so you can schedule them around your launch day.

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should I start preparing a launch?

Two weeks is enough for a small product. Many launch platforms and directories have free queues of weeks or months, so submit to those even earlier.

Which day is best to launch?

Pick a weekday when you can be online all day to answer comments. Competition is lower on weekends, but so is traffic.

Do I need a waitlist before launching?

It helps a lot. Even 50 people who asked to hear from you give you first users, first feedback and first upvotes on launch day.

Is my progress saved?

Yes, in this browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to us. Copy as Markdown gives you a backup you can paste anywhere.
